SB Opportunity FundCommunity of outstanding Black, Latinx and Native American founders.
Description
SB Opportunity Fund is a $100 million venture fund dedicated to supporting and building a community of outstanding Black, Latinx and Native American founders. Launched in June 2020, the SB Opportunity Fund invests in U.S. companies led by founders and entrepreneurs of color at the seed, venture, and growth stages that use technology to reimagine traditional business models and create new ones. Visionary Black, Latinx, and Native American entrepreneurs are vastly underrepresented in both the tech industry and venture capital community and face unfair barriers in their journeys. As the largest fund of its kind, the SB Opportunity Fund is uniquely positioned to address these issues head on.
The Fund is led by Marcelo Claure, Chief Executive Officer of SoftBank Group International and Chief Operating Officer of SoftBank Group Corp. Stacy Brown-Philpot, former CEO of TaskRabbit and former Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Google Ventures, Paul Judge, co-founder of TechSquare Labs and Pindrop, and Shu Nyatta, Managing Partner at SoftBank Group International, serve as the inaugural members of the Fund’s Investment Committee.
SoftBank Group will be the Fund’s primary limited partner, with an initial investment of $100 million. The Fund will donate a portion of the gains from its investments to organizations focused on creating opportunities for people of color and will also reinvest a portion into subsequent funds with a similar mission and focus.
